OFFICIAL RULES is awarding a prize of $10,000 to the team that gets the most points by donating money to the chosen charity ("the game") according to the rules below. It’s like a sales contest at work, but instead of encouraging people to make sales, we’re rewarding the people who build the best fundraising team for a good cause. By playing the game, you agree to abide by these rules.

Open only to legal residents of the United States, eighteen years of age and older. Void where prohibited. The founders of and officers of its affiliates and partners are not eligible to win. This is a contest, and the team that wins will not be chosen at random.


Every team has a captain. The captain is the first person to donate money for a team. To start a team and become a captain, visit and use the links to donate $10 to the featured charity. The user will be prompted to register with an email address and to choose a name for the team. Captains may only donate once to their team’s total.

Captains then use email to encourage friends to donate money to the charity on behalf of their team. Friends visit site linked from the email. Only the first donation by any person will be counted toward a team’s total, but players may join more than one team and captains may be players on other teams.

Donations made will be counted as points. The team that records the largest total of points before the end of the game is the winner. Every ten dollar donation is worth at least ten points... though from time to time we may offer incentives in the form of bonus points to encourage captains to sign on new members during certain parts of the contest.

The captain of the winning team will receive $5,000 in cash and the remaining members of the team will split an additional $5,000.

In case of a tie, the team that made its last donation first will be judged the winner. If it is still a tie, the prize will be split among all remaining teams.


Do not spam. Teams that, in the sole judgment of the judges, engage in sending unsolicited email to strangers to promote the game will be disqualified.

Do not make more than one donation per person per team. Additional donations will be passed on to the charity, but will not count toward the team’s total.

Do not cheat. Any teams that incur payback charges through their credit card companies or Paypal will be disqualified.


The game starts on Monday, June 3, 2002 at 9 a.m. EST, and concludes on Sunday, June 30, 2002 at 5 p.m. EST or when the $50,000 Fund-a-thon goal is reached- whichever comes later. If a significant number of donations are made within the final hour of the contest, the contest deadline will automatically be extended 24 hours.

In the event that the Fund-a-thon goal is not reached by Friday, August 30, 2002 at 5 p.m. EST, the $10,000 prize will be donated to the charity.

Winners will be announced no later than one month after the particular game ends.


For the purposes of entering and winning, the rightful holder of the credit card account will be assumed to be the entrant.

If your team wins, you will be notified by email. You’ll have two weeks from the time of your notification to return a signed affidavit confirming your acceptance of the prize and giving us the right (if the requirement is valid in your state) to use your name and likeness in publicity. Upon receipt of your affidavit, we will send your prize to you via PayPal. It’s up to you to redeem your prize using your PayPal account. is not liable for any fees charged by PayPal.

The size of the prize for the captain is $5,000. The amount of the prize for a player on the winning team will be computed by dividing $5,000 by the number of players on the team.

All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply. All taxes on the prize and any other expenses not specified above are the sole responsibility of the winners. Void where prohibited.

5. PRIVACY will never rent or sell email addresses to anyone. We only collect email addresses so we can confirm donations, confirm team creation and notify winners.

LIABILITY, its volunteers, affiliated organizations, and the charity are not responsible for lost, late, misdirected entries, interrupted or unavailable network, server or other connections, miscommunications, failed phone or computer hardware or software or telephone transmissions or technical failures, garbled transmissions or other errors of any kind, whether human, mechanical or electronic or otherwise. Play the game at your own risk, knowing that all the proceeds, less credit card processing fees, go to charity.

If for any reason the game is not capable of running as planned for any reason, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, and unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond our control which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness or integrity of the game, we reserve the right to terminate the game and give the prize to the charity.

Winners assume all liability for any injury or damages caused or claimed to be caused by their participation in the game and/or the acceptance and/or use of any prize, and release, its volunteers, affiliated organizations, and the charity and each of their respective officers, directors, and employees (the "released parties") from any such liability. The released parties assume no responsibility for any injury or damage to participants' or to any other persons' computer, relating to or resulting from entering or downloading materials or software in connection with this game. The released parties are not responsible for technical, hardware, software, or telephone malfunctions of any kind, lost or unavailable network connections, or failed, incorrect, incomplete, inaccurate, garbled or delayed electronic communications caused by the user or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in this game or by any human error, computer error or other error or problem of any kind which may occur in the serving of game pieces in this game.
